Cockington's trees are a vital part of this living landscape, a tangible connection with the past. Discover a treasure trove of amazing information with tree expert Dominic Scanlon on a gentle trail taking in the park's most special trees. A new Arboretum Friends Group is due to be set up so we will also discuss some of the tasks a voluntary group can carry out such as gathering information for tree labelling and practical tree maintenance.

26 Jul 2010 - Occombe Farm

Ever wondered what tiny creatures lurk in our ponds, meadows and woodlands? Become nature explorers and find some fascinating creatures such as the Great Green Bush Cricket, Water Scorpions, Painted Lady butterflies and many more. Equipment will be provided and activities will include sweep netting, pond dipping and woodland minibeast hunting. Suitable for all ages.
Meet: Outside Occombe café

31st July, Marldon Apple Pie Fair

Marldon Apple Pie Fair has been going since 1888 in memory of local farmer, George Hill, who would use his windfall apples to bake an enormous apple pie for the village. Nowadays, locals and visitors alike join in the celebrations. Events throughout the afternoon include local arts, crafts and food stands, falconry displays, games and even a novelty dog show! There's also the carnival procession through the village accompanied by the Exeter Pipe Band.

Napoleonic Soldiers

31 Jul - 1 Aug 2010 - Berry Head

An English Heritage ‘Heritage Open Day' event - revisit Berry Head 200 years on! Enjoy the fantastic sight of 32nd Cornwall Regiment of Napoleonic Soldiers back in the forts, camping overnight, drilling and firing their muskets. On Sunday 1 August they will be joined by the Coastguard at their station, WW2 veterans and the Brixham Battery group manning the Royal Observation Corps post.
Meet: Main headland at Berry Head
Time: 11am - 4pm, drop in at any time
